Normally, these protein chains cannot pass through the intestinal wall, but they can during the first hours after birth. In addition, colostrum contains a high content of fat and protein. This is important because piglets need a lot of energy immediately after birth to maintain their body temperature. Colostrum should also be administered in sufficient quantity to provide them with moisture.
